Summary

Viltrox expands its popular Air series of ultra-compact prime lenses with the Viltrox AF 20mm f/2.8 Air, a lightweight wide-angle prime lens tailored for full-frame mirrorless camera bodies across Leica L, Sony E, and Nikon Z mounts. Tipping the scales at an astonishingly low 157 grams, this lens integrates an advanced 10-element in 8-group optical formula and a 7 blades aperture diaphragm into a pocketable form factor, offering creators a highly capable, wide 91.6-degree perspective without weighing down their camera kit.

The defining photographic value of this wide prime lies in its harmonious combination of broad spatial coverage and dependable edge-to-edge optical resolution. By incorporating 2 extra-low dispersion (ED) elements, 1 high-refractive index (HR) element, and 2 precision aspherical glass elements, the lens mitigates chromatic aberrations and spherical distortions, delivering clean contrast and rich color fidelity starting wide open at f/2.8. Furthermore, a remarkably short minimum focusing distance of 19 centimeters unlocks creative wide-angle close-up compositions with pleasant background separation.

In day-to-day shooting scenarios, the 20mm focal length shines across landscape photography, urban cityscapes, travel documentation, environmental portraiture, and handheld vlogging. The quiet stepping autofocus motor (STM) delivers swift, fluid subject acquisition fully compatible with advanced camera autofocus tracking modes, while the standard 52mm front filter thread and integrated USB-C interface for firmware upgrades make it an indispensable everyday wide-angle tool.
